20. Can you stop the harassing phone calls?
Yes. Once enrolled in the program your attorney will contact each creditor via USPS mail and inform them you are now legally represented by them. They are to have no further contact with you and this includes calling you at home, at work, or anywhere else they may have been trying. Upon receipt of this letter the creditor has 30 days to comply.
If for some reason the creditor continues to call after the letter, they are then violating several laws and will be held liable. Your help is needed in recording the date and time of the call. It is also necessary to have the name of the creditor and individual that called you available. Contact your attorney and aggressive action will be taken. Only a Consumer Debt attorney can provide this protection and enforcement which is inclusive of the service.
